GENERAL INFORMATION

Soccer Season - Our season begins in the Fall. That's when teams are normally made and if necessary, players advance to the next age division. (for example, moving from a U8 to a U10 team) The Spring is just an extension of our season. We may adjust the teams a little bit to make up for players that do not sign up for the spring or for those new players coming into soccer, but primarily everything stays the same. Players are not advanced into other age group divisions in the spring.

Fall Registration - Deadline for fall registration is June 10 of the current year. If you are a new player or did not receive your form in the mail, a registration form can be picked up at 18 Blacksmith Way in Saugus. Please note that the forms are in the mail box and all completed forms with the appropriate checks and picture can be drop off at the address above .If you have any questions please call and leave a message for the registrar at 781-941-8060.

Spring Registration -

Try-Outs - Any player who try's out and makes a "select" team is required to register for the full soccer season (fall & spring). In town and non-select travel teams need only to register a season at a time. Early registration is necessary for insurance coverage, county game scheduling, in-town rosters and for the time being, field assignments within the town of Saugus.

Games - Soccer fields are divided into 2 sides. One side deemed for "spectators" while the other side is for "players". For travel teams, only those players and coaches who have a card issued by Essex County are allowed on the "players" side. For in-town teams, only registered players and adults who have a Kidsafe form on file with MassYouth Soccer are allowed on the "players" side. These rules are in place for the coaches protection and for the security of your children.

Jewelry - Players cannot wear jewelry of any kind onto the field. This applies to all age groups, both boys and girls, regardless of the size and type of jewelry. This is for the safety of all our young players. It's best that all jewelry be kept home on game days. I know of many coaches who have a collection of unclaimed rings, bracelets and earrings.

Teams - Players will be placed on a team based on their age. You should be contacted by your coach a few weeks before the season to start practices. We encourage coaches to try and stay consistent on the days and time of practice. If your child cannot make a practice, please call the coach and let them know. Also, please review the game schedule as soon as you receive it and let the coach know about any conflicts that you may have. The spring is a busy time for both recitals and communions. Teams are allowed to reschedule games due to conflict, but it can only be done within the first two weeks of the season. This will help ensure that all the games get played and your child's team will not face a forfeit situation on game day.

In Town Uniforms - The league has decided to go with t shirts to be worn as the uniform for Academy and Intramural play. Please keep in mind that only uniforms issued by Saugus Youth Soccer will be allowed on the playing field. In fairness to all participants, only the shirts distributed by the equipment manager will be worn.  Pinnies will be used to distinguish different teams at game times.

Soccer Equipment - Our players are issued either an in-town shirt or a uniform needs to be purchased for the travel division. In addition shin pads are required. Soccer cleats are also required for travel and strongly recommended for the in-town program. Baseball cleats are never allowed. In-town players may wear soccer shorts or any other type of loose fitting shorts. In the cooler weather, sweatpants are suggested and long sleeve shirts can be worn under the uniform. Depending on the age group, a number 3, 4 or 5 soccer ball is helpful for practices. Please check with the coach for your proper size. A bottle of water or a sports drink should also be packed for both practices and games.
